What is Metastatis?

 

Cancer normally starts in one organ and then begin to spread to other organs too. This spread of cancer is termed as Metastasis. Very rarely, cancer can happen simultaneously in more than one organ and they may not be interconnected. During metastasis, the cancer cells from the original organ where cancerous growth occurs breaks away and travels through the blood stream or the lymph system to get attached to other organs. They form new tumor cells in other organs and begins to spread.

During metastasis it can be observed that a cancer cell originally happened in a stomach, called stomach cancer, when it spreads to the liver or bone, they will continue to have the same stomach cancer-type cancer cells only. The cancer in the liver or bone in such cases will not be called liver or bone cancer but it will be called as metastatic stomach cancer. It is always better that cancer is treated in its early stages and avoid metastatic growth by taking timely treatments as prescribed by the cancer specialists.

Can you have cancer in your belly button?

 

The belly button is generally not a primary cancer site. Cancer might originate in the stomach, ovary, pancreas, colon, etc. There were instances where people thought a bulge in the navel or the belly button was an umbilical hernia and that turned out to be cancer in very rare cases of diagnosis. It should be said that a nodule inside the belly button which can be easily overlooked can be signs of cancer present inside the abdomen. The problem is this is a rare manifestation.

Generally, the umbilicus is known for hernia, infections, and other rare diseases like granuloma which can bleed. For people who are obese, the navel can be a place where tiny dirt can accumulate and can be a hygiene concern. For babies, any fluid discharge through navel is pretty common. However, if nodules (metastatic nodule) might grow as a lesion and may ulcerate to exude fluid like pus or blood in due course it could be a sign of internal cancer. But this is extremely rare. Umbilical hernia however does not manifests such symptoms. They can only lead to strangulation of the intestinal tissues inside the trapped hernial area causing associated symptoms. So if an adult patient has fluids exuding through the navel area, it is needs to be evaluated to rule out any possibilities.

What is inguinoscrotal bladder hernia?

Inguinoscrotal bladder hernia is the herniation of the urinary bladder into the inguinal canal. Although this is not a common occurrence it does occur rarely. It occurs when the urinary bladder descends into the inguinal canal. Inguinoscrotal bladder hernia is seen to occur in 1%-3% among all inguinal hernias. And like inguinal hernia, even inguinoscrotal bladder hernia occurs more commonly in males. The patient with this condition displays more urinary symptoms like frequent urination or repeated urinary tract infection. It is more common in aged people and people with prostate conditions.

CT, MRI, and ultrasound are some of the imaging tools that help in diagnosing inguinoscrotal bladder hernia. Sometimes the presence of this condition in inguinal hernia is seen only on the table while the hernia surgeon is operating a patient for hernia repair surgery.
